The Junta de Andalucia’s head of tourism has written an open letter to businesses in the sector affected by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic that is spreading around the world. In an email, Manuel Muñoz Gutiérrez, writes:
“With the uncertainty of how long this COVID-19 crisis will last and finally the economic impact on our sector, we did want to transfer the confidence that, among all, public and private actors, we will succeed.
“Tourism has recovered in previous crises as a fundamental tool for the recovery of society. In the recent words of UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, “tourism is a vehicle for social inclusion, heritage protection and development momentum.”
“In other words, we are responsible for restarting the engine of the economy of our region, for preserving our territory and resources for future generations, and for our society to evolve in a sustainable way and with the participation of all.
“In addition, I looked for this moment to thank the essential and continuous support that you have been doing for years in the execution of our promotional activities and modifications, and to ask you, once again, to accompany us in this new horizon that is presented.
“Since the beginning of this crisis, we have been working, as our Vice President and Tourism Adviser has already advanced, on a new Action Plan on tourism that mitigates the effects of the pandemic and with which we intend to accelerate the recovery of our territories and, hence, the tourism business fabric.
“We hope soon to be able to transfer this battery of actions to you, and in the meantime, encourage you to continue with the guidelines set by the health authorities so that we can resume our activity as soon as possible.
“Receive an affectionate greeting.”
