The Junta de Andalucia’s Ministry of Development, Infrastructure and Land Management has today published the award of a €3.4 million contract to Probisa Vías y Obras to improve the safety of 28-kilometres of the A-373 road, which links the Serranía de Ronda with the Sierra de Cádiz. The works, which is 80 per cent financed by the FEDER European funds has an execution period of 18 months once the work begins.
The existing road is narrow (between 4.40 and 4.80 metres), which makes it difficult for vehicles to pass and is riddled with numerous potholes.
The works will affect the section between kilometre points 41 and 69 of the A-373, which has its beginning in Ubrique – on the border with the province of Malaga – and its end at the junction with the A-369 road (Ronda – Campo de Gibraltar), in the Puerto del Espino, in Algatocín (Málaga).
The road width will be increased to 5.50 metres and improvements to drainage will be made.
The narrowness of the road will force traffic cuts during the period of the works. To minimise the impact on drivers, it has been decided to undertake the work in sections. In addition, alternative routes will be guaranteed to facilitate access to the affected municipalities during the works.
The A-373 road, which runs for 70 kilometres in total, has its origin in the municipality of Villamartín (Cádiz), at the intersection with the Arcos de la Frontera – Antequera (A-384) road, and ends at the Ronda – Campo de Gibraltar road (A-369), in the Algatocín municipality.
