Christmas Day, 25 December, is not particularly important in Spain. The Spanish eat their main Spanish meal on Christmas Eve. And presents are typically exchanged at Epiphany, el Día de Reyes, 6 January. As a result, many restaurants do not open on 25 December, and most of those that do just offer their normal menu. So, if you fancy a nice Christmas lunch, English-style, or simply something different, where can you go? Or do you just have to cook it yourself and stay at home? Paul Whitelock has been taking a look at what is on offer…
With just a week or so until Christmas Day, where can you go for a nice meal around these parts? Well, I’ve made enquiries throughout the Serranía de Ronda, I’ve looked at restaurant websites and I’ve phoned a good few places and there isn’t much on offer. I’ve only found the following three places that are doing something special and one that is offering a home delivery service on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
Ian and Elaine Love have offered a traditional Christmas roast with all the trimmings every year for the last decade or more, but this year they are trying something different – a hog roast! Using the barbecue on the riverside terrace, guests can opt to sit inside or on the terrace if the weather is nice. The meal will be accompanied by live music from Campbell Bass with a repertoire of Christmas songs, jazz and Frank Sinatra classics.

Carmen Luisa has been building her reputation for fine and subtle cooking over the past year or so, despite the problems caused by Covid-19 restrictions. This Christmas she is planning a Christmas Extravaganza based around the barbecue grill and soothing music, followed by dancing until 6.00 pm when she has to close because of the current Covid-19 restrictions.
All dishes will be a la carta and include entrecote, solomillo, presa, secreto and churrasco, grilled to your taste, as well as, my favourite, calamar a la plancha (see picture), dorada a la plancha and gambones. All accompanied by a choice of her tasty, fresh salads.
You can round off the meal with one of her delicious postres caseros (homemade desserts).
There is a selection of Ronda wines to choose from, served by the bottle or glass.
There is no all-in-one price. You pay for what you order.
Reservations (required): 689 18 76 05
