ONLINE TASTING: Wines of Ronda and the Serranía

It is a fact that the current pandemic has changed our lives, perhaps forever. People have had to find other ways of doing things, for example working from home, using digital media for meetings, shopping ‘online’ and communicating on platforms such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype or Zoom

The Ronda company Milamores, specialists in wine tourism, is the latest firm to show a bit of ingenuity. They are going to organise an ‘online’ tasting of Ronda wines on December 19 from 7:00 p.m.

“Those who want to participate buy a case of wines from Ronda and the Serranía, with which we will do the tasting via ZOOM”, says wine expert Antonio Martínez who will lead the tasting.

The case in question, which will be sent in advance to the tasters, includes four wines: Resilencia Viognier, a white wine from Bodega Gonzalo Beltrán; Lunares, a rosado from Bodega Lunares; Encina del Inglés, a red wine from Bodega La Melonera; and Badman Cabernet/Syrah, a red from Bodegas BadMan Wines. These are just four examples from among the twenty or so wineries in and around Ronda.

Instructions will be sent via email to each participant.

The event bears the title of A Toast to India, since the profits from the evening will go to the Vicente Ferrer Foundation to contribute to the projects that the foundation are working on in India, especially those aimed at women and children.

“The price of the case is 60 euros, which is cheaper than normal thanks to the generosity of the bodegas involved”, says Martínez. “It is a good way to enjoy wine, the India project will be explained and then each of the wines will be described and discussed.”

I already know three of the wines selected for this ‘online’ tasting. One of them is great, but two others are distinctly average, in my view. However, I am going to put my name down, because it promises to be a very interesting experience.
