In my opinion, there is no better way to explore Spain than on two wheels, writes Ashley Higgins.
Cycle touring in Spain enables you to experience the culture, cuisine and character of the country close up. The freedom of the road and not having a specific plan is a romantic way to travel. Just you, your bike, the open road tackling the many unexpected challenges that your cycling adventure throws in your way.
However, the uncertainty of your travel plans can be daunting and leave you feeling a little nervous and scared. Are you really ready to take the full plunge into the cycle touring culture?
Your bike loaded with all your kit, food, clothes, bedding, camp stove, kitchen sink etc?
A more gentle introduction to cycle touring would be to try a self-guided cycling holiday where you have the freedom to ride independently at your own pace but with the knowledge that helps, should you need it, is only a phone call away. Our self-guided cycle touring holidays in southern Spain are planned for you with accommodation booked, bags moved and airport transfers all taken care of, all you have to do is turn up, ride and enjoy the countryside, culture and cuisine! This makes for a fantastic introduction into cycle touring
We have three self-guided tours, White Villages of Andalucia Tour, Sporting Tour and our Three Cities Tour. We are also happy to customise these trips or organise Bespoke Tours for you. Below are the details of these three trips…
The White Villages Tour through Andalucia is suitable for everyone! Whether you are a group of friends, bunch of work colleagues or a couple and you are looking for a week away to enjoy the many simple pleasures in life such as riding a bike, great food, fine wine and fresh air our White Village Tour is for you. Riding on a combination of country lanes and dirt tracks, your week’s biking meanders through the Andalucian countryside by olive groves, rivers and lakes, cork forests, the Via Verde and many beautiful white villages (Pueblos Blancos) that are synonymous with Andalucia.
The Sporting Tour through Andalucia is suitable for the avid cyclist, sportive rider and keen road bike rider. Expect to ride 50-120km per day on this point-to-point tour.
On most days we will provide you with 3 choices of rides making this trip perfect for groups of mixed abilities and also allowing you to customise your tour depending on your energy levels each morning. Still tired from the day before? Then choose the short option! Want to push a little harder today? Choose a longer harder option or do the two shorter routes one in the morning and the other in the afternoon! It’s your decision. We provide you with all the vital information that you need to judge, your pace and how much to keep in reserve. Your route notes have a total distance of each days’ ride, the total amount of climbing and we also split this down to before and after lunch distances, you also have the topography of each ride.
This self-guided cycling tour passes through the historic cities of Seville, Cordoba and Granada and combines the history and beautiful scenery of the Andalucia region in southern Spain. Seville, Cordoba and Granada – are the three most impressive and historical cities in Andalucia and riding between them you will experience some of Spain’s finest rural landscapes where time seems to have stood still for hundreds of years. Your route takes you through plantations of orange, olive, cotton and sunflowers which all border the Guadalquivir River. Ride at your own pace and visit these 3 stunning cities and some beautiful White Villages synonymous with Andalucia. A good combination of city life and relaxation in the Pueblos Blancos.

Very interesting article. Sounds like fun, though I fear I’m a bit long in the tooth for such activity.
