Ozone slayer!

Ozone slayer!

Have you heard about ozone being a very effective cleaner and disinfectant? Paul Whitelock has recently switched to ozone for all his cleaning and disinfecting needs in the south of Spain and is delighted with the results. Here are his personal thoughts…

Our house has never been cleaner. Our pool, always a problem to keep clean, especially in the heat of July and August, is about to be converted to an ozone pool.

When we saw the power of ozone as a cleaning agent we were stunned at its effectiveness. A spray bottle containing ozonised water, cuts through grease like magic, cleans dirty grout in bathrooms and kitchens, descales kettles just like that and removes grime from any surface with little more than a wipe.

Our pool shower has been covered in limescale for years and all efforts to remove it with chemical cleaners have failed. With spray-on ozone water, however, and a bit of elbow grease our shower looks like new. Similarly, the irremovable tide mark round the inside of the pool will disappear with ozone and a good scrub. And once the pool has been converted to an ozone pool it will be self-cleaning and self-disinfecting. So I can get rid of all the expensive chemicals I’ve had to use for the last decade.

Ozonised air can disinfect an indoor area in 15 minutes. We can “defumigate” our whole house in just a quarter of an hour. Our casa rural the same.  A hotel can use it to cleanse rooms between guests, so ozone presents a great opportunity for the hospitality sector to cope with the extra cleaning load caused by COVID-19 and to put it in their publicity to reassure anxious guests.

Ozonised water used in a nifty German-designed vacuum cleaner can work wonders on upholstery, furnishings and curtains. Rita’s rather grubby sofa has come up like new and carpets and rugs present no challenge at all. No more expensive cleaning bills at the lavandería or the tintorería. Our washing machine is plumbed into the system, so we no longer need soaps and detergents as long as we wash at 40 degrees or below.

Our house and garden are now a virtually chemical-free environment. Gone are all cleaning agents and detergents, washing powder and Fairy liquid, no more lejía nor agua fuerte. Just think of the money we’ll save and the less plastic we’ll be dumping at the basura.

So, Ozone Slayer is an apt title for this piece. I’m pleased as punch and my German wife Rita is begeistert (roughly translated as “gob-smacked”).
