The small Spanish town of Jimera de Libar has seen no cases of the coronavirus, thanks to the diligence of its mayor.
Francisco Lobo has enforced strict lockdown for his mainly elderly population of the town in Malaga province and has taken it upon himself to collect and deliver food and medication.
Delivering masks on Thursday, Lobos told the Associated Press he was there for his constituents every need.
“If they need to phone or psychological help, any problem they always call me,” he said.
The most recent census found Jimera de Libar has a total population of 370 residents.
Josefa Lobo, who runs the supermarket, said the mayor was “at the service of the people.”
Pharmacist Juan Manuel Palacio said the mayor has put all the town’s resources to work for the good of the residents.
Spain has been one of the European countries most affected by the coronavirus with 221,447 confirmed cases and 26,070 deaths according to the Johns Hopkins University.
