COVID-19 CRISIS: Andalucia’s Malaga and Granada provinces will NOT move into Phase 1 of Spain’s de-escalation plan on Monday

Spain’s health minister Salvador Illa has confirmed that the Andalucian provinces of Malaga and Granada will not move into Phase 1 of the COVID-19 coronavirus de-escalation phase on Monday – and nor will Madrid, the county’s capital.

However, nationwide around 51 per cent of the population will enjoy fewer confinement measures from Monday.

In Andalucia, the provinces of Almería, Jaén, Córdoba, Sevilla, Cádiz and Huelva are moving to Phase 1 while Malaga and Granada remain in Phase 0.

Illa gave a news conference this evening (Friday) after meeting with regional authorities to discuss the conditions of the de-escalation and called for “prudence, prudence, prudence” to consolidate the gains in the battle against the coronavirus.

“During this transition to the new normality, social discipline is more necessary than ever: maintaining interpersonal distance, washing hands and maintaining hygiene in private and public spaces, and heeding the instructions of health authorities,” he said.
