An earthquake in Spain’s Malaga province gently rocked the Costa del Sol this afternoon (Saturday) according to the country’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional.
The quake, at 6.18pm, had its epicentre near the mountain village Casares – just inland from the holiday hotspot of Estepona.
It registered a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale at a reported depth of 3km.
There are no reports of any damage or injury.

Tremors with a magnitude of between 2.0 and 2.9 are classed as ‘minor’ and can be ‘felt slightly by some people with no damage to buildings’. Over one million are experienced worldwide every year.
The biggest quake in recorded history was the 9.5 quake that struck Chile in 1960. It killed nearly 1,900 people and caused about $4 billion in damage.
