The mayor of Ronda, Mª Paz Fernández, has said that work has not stopped to try to make the impact on the tourism sector in the city ‘as little as possible’ in the light of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the world.
The councillor pointed out that tourism is the great economic engine of Ronda so all the scenarios that may arise are being analysed and the necessary tools are being put in place so that the city remains one of the great tourist destinations in all the world.
The municipal delegate for Tourism, Alicia López, has announced that an important campaign to promote tourist resources in Ronda is being shaped and that it will be launched once the Covid-19 crisis is overcome. The intention is to start it in an escalated way, looking for a local audience in the first phase, launching the promotion at the provincial and then regional level. Later – and always taking into account how world events are happening – to recover international tourism.
In principle, it is hoped that by the summer it will be possible to return to a ‘certain normalisation’.
López has indicated that she is in constant contact with the city’s tourism entrepreneurs, being aware of the great concern that exists, especially in small and local medium-sized tourism companies. For this reason, a series of videoconferences will be launched with the heads of these businesses where Turismo de Ronda, Apymer and other groups will participate so that the business community can convey their concerns and contribute ideas that will be taken into account when developing future work strategies.
