The total number of travellers in hotels, apartments, campsites and rural tourism who have chosen to visit the Costa del Sol during the month of January has risen to 359,565.
Rural tourism has once again seen record numbers of travellers staying in rural establishments during the month of January an increase of 113.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, as reflected in the latest figures prepared by Tourism Costa del Sol.
During the month of January a total of 4,397 travellers chose rural tourism establishments during their stay on the Costa del Sol, compared to 2,056 registered travellers during the same month of the previous year. Spanish travellers have shown a 225% increase, while foreigners increased by 16.5%.
The CEO of Tourism Costa del Sol, Margarita del Cid, said that these data come to “corroborate in the first place the recovery of the national market and, secondly, the good work and the great effort that is being carried out in the province of Malaga both by public institutions and by businessmen to give it the value that the interior deserves.”
The total number of travellers in hotels, apartments, campsites and rural tourism who have chosen to visit the Costa del Sol during the month of January was 359,565 (11.2% more) while overnight stays have grown 6.4% reaching 1,298,342.
In January the Malaga-Costa del Sol airport recorded 496,967 passengers and there was a 10% increase in travellers arriving on the AVE high-speed train service (67,530); as well as an 11.1% increase in cruise passengers arriving at the Port of Malaga (15,407).
With regard to the nationality of passengers at the Malaga-Costa del Sol airport, the biggest increases were from Turkey (18.1%), Italy (12.8%), Ireland (8.2%) and United Kingdom (3.6%).
