The President of the Andalucian Government, Juanma Moreno, has announced this Sunday that the Andalusian Government, anticipating any spike in the number of patients with coronavirus that may occur and so that the Andalusian health system is prepared for it, will activate today (Monday) in the Governing Council the first of two contingency plans to deal with the pandemic in the autonomous community.
Said plan, foreseen before 9,000 possible confirmed cases of coronavirus, will mean that up to 7,750 public beds will be available to attend to those who require hospitalization, which is why the number occupied today is multiplied by three. Likewise, 1,030 beds will be available in ICUs to respond to the most serious cases, that is, five times more beds than are currently necessary.
“I know there is room, in the current situation, with 4,600 cases. But it is not about fear or pessimism, it is about responsibility and anticipation. We want anyone who needs it to be guaranteed, in these times of emergency, the best possible health care, “Moreno said during an appearance after participating in the third videoconference held between all the autonomous presidents with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, since the State of Alarm was decreed.
In line with this announcement, the Andalusian president has also reported that, in the event of activating the second contingency plan, planned in view of the situation of 15,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Andalusia, a field hospital will be opened in the sports city of Carranque, in Malaga city, for which adaptation work has already begun. In this sense, Moreno has insisted that it is about acting with foresight and anticipation in case the virus continues to evolve for the worse. It is an ideal facility for space and location, next to the Malaga Regional Hospital. Thus, he explained that in two pavilions of Carranque they will have 400 additional beds in a few days to alleviate the tension of care in Malaga hospitals.
On the other hand, he pointed out that the Andalusian Administration has begun to give medicalized use to the first hotels, thanks to an agreement with the Ilunion chain, from the ONCE Social Group. Specifically, the Alcora hotel in Seville, with 110 beds, which is already receiving the first patients; And, soon, if necessary, the same will be done with the hotel that the chain has in the Malaga capital.
As Moreno has explained, the objective of these centers is to welcome elderly people who become ill in residences, so that they have a place where they can endure treatment and isolation. “We are not going to allow the coronavirus to run us over, because Andalusia is ready, and we will continue to be constantly on the lookout for the evolution of the virus in the coming weeks,” he added.
