Members of the Civil Guard of the Serrania de Ronda, with the collaboration of locals, rescued two lost British walkers in a mountainous area of Cortes de la Frontera after the alert was raised.
The incident happened on December 23 at 4.30pm when the 112 Andalucia emergency control centre received a call warning that that two foreign people were disoriented and lost in an area with difficult access in the Sierra de Libar.
The Guardia Civil officers and locals from Cortes de la Frontera established a search party in the La Maimona area of the Sierra de Libar – a very steep and rugged area, lacking lanes or paths and covered with lush vegetation of thorns and broom.
When the emergency services located them the walkers were reported to be in a good condition although tired and distressed.
They then faced a two-hour cross-country walk back to the town of Cortes de la Frontera where they had parked their vehicle.
