Today, Saturday, December 14, the demonstration in support of passenger rail services in Andalucia began at 12 noon at the San Bernardo station, winding through the streets of Sevilla before ending in front of the regional government headquarters at the Palace of San Telmo at 2.15pm.
Thousands of representatives of towns and cities affected by the threat of the loss of rail connections and closure of their stations joined the drum-banging flag-waving protest.
The PTRA group (Plataforma por el Tren Rural Andaluz), of which the CGT union is a part, arrived in Sevilla after a long series of marches that began at Bobadilla station (Malaga) on October 12 to raise public awareness of the decisions of the Council of Ministers last August 30, which eliminates the consideration of the Public Service Obligation to most of the current regional trains that run through the autonomous community of Andalucia.
The CGT, together with the rest of locally formed groups that make up PTRA, said they were very pleased with the attendance at the march and the response to the public appeal to demonstrate against the dismantling policies of the railway and the uncertain future for Andalucian railway lines and stations in towns and middle cities.
